Orange Valley and the best lemon sorbet of the island

A full-day excursion for hard core hikers…occacional walkers take the tram back to the port

This demanding circular hike takes you from the port to the mountain village Sóller, passing olive and orange groves and a landscape rich of vegetation and stunning views. If you feel tired on halfway you can easily catch the tram back to the harbour.

The entire hike takes about 5 hours with 17 km distance.

Start easily along the harbor promenade, follow the rail tracks towards Sóller until you reach the end of the village. Turn right passing the bridge and then follow the hiking signs GR221 (West Coast long-distance hiking trail) to the Cami de Castelló towards Sóller, always vis-a-vis with the impressive massif of the Tramuntana mountains.

Some geography: The high mountain on the left with a white dome on top - this is Puig Major, 1,445 meters altitude, the highest peak in Mallorca and military restricted area. Especially in winter, the snow-topped summit is a popular motif!

Also, keep your ears open: A whistle points to the historic Sóller train which approaches and crosses your path several times. The old lady was born in the German Siemens plants and began operations in 1912.

Arriving halfway in Sóller, you have the choice to hike back on the opposite side of Sa Figuera and catch a glimpse of the finca by Austrian songwriter Rainhard Fendrich ("Macho, Macho") or a detour to the island's most delicious ice cream factory "Fet a Sóller" and return by tram. Imagine, they use 30,000 liters/year of pure local lemon juice to produce their delicious lemon sorbet. A must try!*
