Mallorca has much more to offer than palm trees, beaches and the sea. How about a ride on the popular Sóller railway, for example? The wooden train, also known as the "Red Lightning", departs from the center in Port de Sóller. The first stop is the "Tranvía" tram. You can get on just a few minutes' walk from the hotel and sit back for 30 minutes and enjoy the ride along the harbour promenade, past the numerous bars and restaurants. The Tramuntana mountains then stretch out towards Sóller. The train then slowly jerks into the centre of Sóller. There it's time to change trains and continue the aforementioned "Red Lightning". The journey takes you past citrus plantations, olive groves and through authentic Mallorcan mountain villages. One highlight is the tunnel that connects Sóller with the village of Bunyola and runs directly through a mountain. The destination of the railway, which has been in existence since 1912, is the lively Balearic capital of Palma, which invites you to take a leisurely stroll through the city.
