Coastal Hike to Refugi de Muleta

This short yet impressive coastal hike starts right at the harbour of Port de Sóller. From the sea, you climb up along old stone paths to the former Muleta telegraph station – a route that leads you from Mediterranean liveliness into the quiet stillness of the Tramuntana. From the sound of waves to wide-open views.

Port de Sóller is the perfect starting point: boats gently bob in the water, cafés line the promenade, and the scent of salt, café con leche and the sea fills the air. Stock up on water and snacks here before leaving the town behind and beginning your ascent on historic paths.

Soon, the trail joins the Camí de Castelló, an old connecting route winding its way through pine trees, dry-stone walls and olive groves. The path is well marked, initially gentle, and repeatedly opens up small windows onto the bay of Port de Sóller.

As the trail becomes steeper, the views truly begin. Behind you lie the harbour and the sea; below you, the deep green of the pines; above you, Mallorca’s clear sky. Step by step, the landscape opens up – until suddenly it’s there: the Mediterranean, a deep, endless blue stretching across the horizon.

After around two hours, you reach the Refugi de Muleta, a former telegraph station that is now a simple, charming mountain refuge with legendary views. From the terrace, you look straight out over the coastline and towards the Cap Gros lighthouse – a sight that makes every break unforgettable.

Here, you can eat and rest. From the refuge, you can either return to the harbour along the same path or continue on towards Sóller – depending on your energy and mood.
