Circular Hike Through Mallorca’s Mountain Villages

3 hours | 11 kilometres | easy to moderate circular hike through the Orange Valley | start & finish in Sóller

This approximately 11-kilometre circular hike starting in Sóller takes around 3 hours and leads you through some of Mallorca’s most beautiful villages - nestled between orange groves, ancient stone paths and the gentle foothills of the Tramuntana mountains. A route filled with Mediterranean scents, gentle ascents, small discoveries and wide-open views. The hike starts and ends right in Sóller, making it ideal for anyone who prefers to leave the car or tram behind.

Your tour begins in Sóller, the lively heart of the valley. Around the main square, the air is filled with the scent of oranges, almonds and freshly baked goods, while the mountains rise impressively in the background. After just a few minutes, you leave the bustling centre behind and slowly ascend on historic paths towards Fornalutx.

At the top, you’re rewarded with a village straight out of a picture book: Fornalutx, often named one of the most beautiful villages in Spain. Between natural stone façades and flower-lined steps, it’s the perfect place for a break - a café solo, perhaps with some olives, cheese and a few spicy peppers. Just the right fuel before continuing the loop.

The path towards Biniaraix is a feast for the senses: silvery olive groves, crunching stone trails and dry-stone walls that whisper stories from centuries past. Soon you reach Biniaraix, a small gem at the entrance to the famous gorge. And here awaits perhaps the most delightful surprise of the day: Bar Bodega Biniaraix. A cosy café full of village charm, serving excellent speciality coffee that brings you back to life - and tempts you to linger a little longer.

But it’s time to say a quick “hola y adiós”, as the route now leads back towards Sóller. The return path gently descends, opening up ever-changing views across the valley: lemon yellow, orange green, mountain grey - Mallorca in its purest form.

Back on the valley floor, you wander through orange plantations on your way to the centre of Sóller, passing traditional fincas and old stone walls that reflect the warm afternoon light.

If you feel like rounding off the day, the main square offers cafés, ice cream and the relaxed atmosphere of a town that has welcomed hikers for generations.

Mediterranean villages, mountain views, oranges and coffee - all within just a few hours. This is what hiking holidays in the Sóller Valley feel like.
