The most famous serpentine street in Mallorca with its 700 meters of altitude is a must-challenge for all bend lover. But even the approach is energy-sapping: Starting in Port Sóller, first you have to master the pass below the Puig Major with 900 meters of altitude. That's why the complete tour is only recommended for well-trained racing cyclists.
Luckely, for yobs we have a second option: Take the boat from Port Sóller to Sa Calobra, conquer the snake and roll back comfortably. Or the other way around.
Distance retour: 38 kilometers. Highest point: 930 meters altitude
Today is your day to conquer the snake, the monster is waiting for you!
The West Coast Road towards Pollensa leads you into the mountains of the Tramuntana. Up here, where we have snow in winter, black vultures circling and no more soul dwells, you pass the highest summit of the island, the drinking water reservoirs Cuber and Gorg Blau and after 15 kilometers exhausting climb you will reach the gate to the snake´s home.
Feel the adrenaline rush when passing the 12 spectacular hairpin turns of 180 ° and more. Stop at the tie curve - here the road leads through itself at a 270 ° angle – and enjoy the incredible view of this architectural masterpiece and the sea. After around 15 minutes, the fun is over ... or just begins. It´s here where the Torrent de Pareis, the second largest erosion gorge in southern Europe, kisses the sea and deep blue waves invite you for a swim.
Once the cool water adjusted your senses it´s time to return. Whether by boat or by bike, after a day of battle the winner needs to be pampered, kneaded and stretched ... our spa girls will prepare you for the next challenge!
A breast swelled with pride, piercing calves dipping the pool, drink in your hand, watching the sea .... that's cool (bike) holidays in Mallorca!
P.S.: Just in case you might get hungry, stopp at the restaurant at Mirador Ses Barques: homemade paella, rabbit in onions and freshly squeezed orange juice, topped by a breathtaking eagle-view to Port Soller.
