The Santanyi street market

Do you know those holiday souvenirs you could have done without? Standing caps, dust catchers and stupid sayings....Do better and bring a real piece of Mallorca with you. Where to find it? Where the locals shop - at the weekly market.

A particularly beautiful and popular market is the one in Santanyi. On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the pretty little town is transformed into a bustling village where farmers, locals, visitors and art lovers come together. Every imaginable delicacy of the island is offered, craftsmen sell ceramics and soaps and painting finds a new wall in the numerous galleries around the market square.

But it is not only the market that makes a visit to Santanyi so appealing.

The town stands for the typical sandstone quarried in the region, from which the cathedral in Palma and the postcard fincas are built. And so, of course, the façades of the lovingly restored townhouses in Santanyi also shine brightly with the gold of the Mediterranean sun. Numerous small restaurants invite you to relax in the patios, the courtyards typical of Mallorca, and the buzz of voices reveals that Santanyi is a surprisingly international village.

Our tip: The Laudat restaurant, located in a small street behind the church, is a real gem. Not only what goes on the plate, but the entire interior takes your senses on a Mediterranean journey. The old townhouse has been stylishly transformed into a restaurant with a patio, the architecture has been maintained and many decorative elements tell the rich history of the house. Classic. Modern. Wonderful.

Want more, can't get enough of this area? Then, on your way back, make a photo stop at the Es Pontàs rock gate. The significant, 20-metre-high stone arch in the sea is a popular photo motif.

What a day! Picked up some cool souvenirs. Stomach filled in style. And followers are satisfied. Simply perfect.

The market stalls are open from 9 to 13 hrs.
