Do you know how a dream beach is created? Or are you looking for the typical maritime Instagram motif? Then, the hike from the s'Estanyol marina to the Vallgornera urbanization is yours.
The wide sandy path by the sea takes you to Es Racó de s'Arena beach, which is covered in a thick layer of seaweed and algae. Most people find the brown grass disturbing. In fact, it is completely natural and the basis for a dream beach. Not only does it protect the subsoil from erosion, the mixture of seagrass, algae and shells produces the finest sand.
Seagrass is a plant with long leaves that is rooted to the seabed and functions like a plant on land. At some point, it sheds its leaves, which are then washed up on the beach. And algae is a broad term for various species that grow into larger plants.
At the end of a life cycle, seaweed and algae combined with shells and other components eventually become sand. The birth of the dream beach.
Let´s continue and soon the blue and white striped, twelve-metre-high “Far de s'Estalella” lighthouse appears. Not an old boy like the collection of small houses in its vicinity, but a fantastic photo motif with views as far as the Cabrera archipelago, Colonia Sant Jordi and s'Estanyol.
The thick watchtower, which is on the way further on, has a lot of history, although it looks almost youthful thanks to it´s restauration. It dates back to the 16th century, when Mallorca was a popular target for pirate raids.
Passing caves and interesting rock formations, the coastal path ends in civilization, where you can fortify yourself for the return journey in the restaurant “Mirador de Cabrera”.
Same way back? So what? Everything looks completely different from this perspective.
PS: Incidentally, the matted sea balls are also seaweed. They don't bite. They don't hurt. You can touch them.
