First a drive to the residential area of Son Olesa, near Valldemossa. We will hike across private property to the ocean-side Mirador des Pí viewing point, enjoying beautiful views of the Teix mountains and mountain village of Valldemossa along the way. Following this, we will make a 45-minute rocky descent along an old mule track with hairpin bends leading through mixed woods to remote Port de Valldemossa. Our hike will then take us along a small track up a short, steep ascent before we hit a pleasant access road that runs along the bizarre bluffs (including a view of Michael Douglas’ finca) to the idyllic small fishing village of S´Estaca, located in a beautiful picturesque ocean setting. After a late al fresco picknick featuring local delicacies we will enjoy an approximately one-hour uphill hike through the holm-oak woods along an old horse track. Along the way we will pass a number of viewing points before reaching the old “Camí de S¨Escolta” observation trail with its amazing panoramic views of the northwest coast. The route then switches to a pleasant hiking trail among ancient gnarled olive trees and across a plateau, taking us back to the romantic mountain village of Valldemossa. After a break for drinks we will return to the hotel by coach.

  • REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT & ORGANISATION

Almost all of Mallorca’s hiking trails are privately owned. They are often very rocky and gravelly and overgrown with grass that has sharp leaf blades.

It is thus important that you are healthy, have plenty of stamina and are surefooted and that you were suitable all-weather clothing. Sturdy hiking boots with a good sole, a backpack, drink bottle, sun hat, and waterproof clothing are required. Telescopic hiking poles are advantageous.

In some cases you will have to carry the food for the picknick that we will eat along the way in your own backpack. The only drink offered during picknicks is free Majorcan red table wine. You must bring your own drinks, fruit, and cookies to eat during the hike.

Our program focuses on enjoying and experiencing the landscape; having a fun hike; learning useful facts about local flora and fauna; gaining fascinating insights into the island and its inhabitants; and, last but not least, sampling the culinary highlights of Mallorca’s authentic rustic cuisine.
