Throughout Spain the summer season traditionally kicks off on Midsummer Night (“Noche de San Juan”). And Port de Sóller is no exception. The motto of the evening is ‘the more friends and family who get together on the beach to picknick, dance, and party, the better’! The dress code is WHITE.

There is something magical about this night, that celebrates the symbolic transition from darkness to light. Wherever you look, whether on land or the ocean, there are candles and torches. It is also thought to bring good luck if you write your wishes and prayers on a piece of paper and burn it in a flame.

Note: Don’t be surprised when the locals take a dip in the ocean at midnight. This ritual is supposed to purify your body and soul, washing away illnesses and sins. Even if you have nothing to repent, swimming in the Mediterranean on such a night is undoubtedly a fantastic experience!
