Sometimes the anticipation of a hotel stay begins long before the booking.
Before staying at the Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel Es Trenc, we had already been to NENI for dinner. Even then, we sat there, looked around and were immediately captivated by the atmosphere. The colours, all the little details, the pool area and that very special Bikini style that feels relaxed yet so thoughtfully designed.
From that evening on, one thing was clear to us: we definitely wanted to stay here one day.
When the time finally came, we were especially curious. Would the hotel feel just as good as a guest as we remembered it from our dinner at the restaurant?
We can give you the answer right away: yes. Perhaps even a little better.
As soon as we arrived, we had that feeling that is so difficult to plan for when it comes to a hotel: we instantly felt at home.
Bikini Es Trenc is neither a sterile new-build nor a classic luxury hotel where everything feels immaculate, cool and almost untouched. The buildings are older and have been modernised. Rather than trying to hide their history completely, the existing architecture was embraced and truly made the most of.
And that is exactly what gives the hotel its character.
Everywhere, you’ll find striking colours, patterns, art, plants and pieces of furniture that make you stop and take a second look. Nothing feels randomly put together, yet at the same time, it never feels so perfectly staged that you’re afraid to move.
The hotel feels alive. Warm, creative and a little unconventional. Exactly our kind of place.
We became even more aware of just how special the atmosphere at Bikini Es Trenc really is during an evening walk.
A wooden boardwalk runs directly in front of the hotel along the sea, making it easy to stroll towards the harbour of Colònia de Sant Jordi. We walked along the water, watched the evening light and passed several other hotels along the way.
And suddenly, we noticed just how different Bikini felt from the hotels around it.
Many of the other hotels seemed very bright, sleek and almost sterile to us. Functional pool areas, harsh lighting and little that really stayed in our minds. Certainly lovely hotels – but also the kind of places you could find in many other holiday destinations.
Later, as we walked back along the wooden boardwalk and arrived at Bikini Es Trenc again, the contrast was impossible to miss.
Small tea lights were glowing around the pool. The plants were softly illuminated from below, subtle lamps lit up the seating areas and the water reflected the warm, indirect light. Nothing was bright or overpowering. Everything felt calm, cosy and almost a little magical.
We love hotels where there is something to discover. Places where you don’t just walk through a beautiful lobby, but keep finding little corners on your way to your room that have been designed with just as much attention to detail.
At Bikini Es Trenc, this concept runs throughout the entire hotel.
The rooms are colourful, warm and individually designed. Fabrics, artwork, lamps and furniture reflect the hotel’s relaxed style without ever feeling too deliberate. Your eyes naturally wander around the room because there are little details waiting to be discovered everywhere.
The older building hasn’t been transformed into something it was never meant to be. Instead, its unique features have been embraced and combined with a modern, laid-back design.
Maybe that’s exactly why the hotel feels so comfortable. It’s stylish without feeling cold. Distinctive without taking itself too seriously.
The pool area is the heart of the hotel.
During the day, it’s a wonderfully relaxed place: surrounded by palm trees and lush greenery, with sun loungers and various little spots to retreat to. Although there are naturally plenty of guests spending time here, the area never feels like a typical large hotel pool complex.
With its different spaces, everyone can find their own favourite spot. You can read, swim, grab a drink or simply watch the sun slowly move across the pool area.
But for us, the pool reveals its true magic in the evening.
That’s when the tea lights are lit, the plants and pathways are softly illuminated and the pool area becomes the kind of place you only meant to walk past for a moment – but end up sitting in for much longer.
That particular lighting atmosphere really touched us. It transforms the entire hotel without ever demanding attention.
That NENI is located right inside the hotel was, of course, another reason for us to stay here.
As mentioned, we already knew the restaurant from a previous visit. In fact, that first visit was what made us want to stay at Bikini Es Trenc one day.
We really like the NENI concept: many dishes are served in the middle of the table and meant to be shared. You try a little of this, order another small dish to share and, without even realising it, spend much more time together around the table.
The oriental-Mediterranean dishes are a perfect match for the hotel’s laid-back atmosphere. Dining here doesn’t feel like a formal hotel dinner, but rather like a long evening with friends – good food, music and a glass of wine.
And the fact that there are only a few steps between the restaurant and your room naturally makes the whole evening even more relaxed.
The fact that Bikini Es Trenc feels creative and musical is no coincidence.
The hotel is home to the professional “Studio C”, created on the initiative of musician Clueso. It was designed for songwriting, music production, podcasts and other creative projects. Clueso wasn’t involved in the hotel concept merely as a prominent name; he also helped shape the idea of a place where holidays and creative work can seamlessly blend into one another.
We really like that idea.
It fits perfectly with the hotel as a whole, which feels less like an ordinary holiday resort and more like a creative retreat. A place where you can slow down, come up with new ideas or simply make music.
The studio doesn’t feel like a forced attraction, but rather fits naturally into the overall concept. It gives you an even better sense of why music, art and design play such an important role at Bikini Es Trenc.
The hotel’s location is another reason why we would come back anytime.
Step outside the hotel and you’re practically right by the sea. The wooden boardwalk follows the coastline all the way to the harbour of Colònia de Sant Jordi. We found this walk especially beautiful in the evening, when the sun sits lower in the sky, everything gradually becomes quieter and you find yourself looking out over the water again and again.
The beaches around Es Trenc are also easy to reach. At the same time, the hotel is perfectly placed for simply retreating and enjoying some time to yourself.
You can spend the whole day exploring, discovering the south of Mallorca or walking along the coast. But you can just as easily stay by the pool and make the hotel itself your destination for the day.
Ever since our first dinner at NENI, we had wanted to stay at Bikini Es Trenc. Naturally, our expectations were high – and yet, our stay didn’t disappoint.
Quite the opposite: It was only as guests that we realised how many little things come together to create the experience.
It’s the colours and materials. The plants, the art and the music. The long breakfast in the morning. NENI in the evening. The wooden boardwalk by the sea. And above all, the warm glow around the pool that welcomes you back after an evening walk.
The moment when we walked past the other hotels and then returned to Bikini is probably the best summary of our stay.
You can immediately tell: This hotel is different.
Not necessarily because it’s bigger, newer or more luxurious than the hotels around it. But because it has a soul. Because someone has thought about how a space should feel – and not just how it should look in a photograph.
For us, Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel Es Trenc is a place that inspires while also allowing you to slow down. A hotel that had already made us curious before our stay and that we now associate with even more beautiful memories.
And chances are, the next time we have dinner at NENI, we’ll find ourselves sitting by the pool again, looking at the tea lights and thinking about how nice it would be to simply stay for one more night.
